How We Calculate Ideal Weight

No single formula perfectly captures ideal weight. That is why each page compares four established methods and shows you the full range.

BMI Range (18.5-24.9)

The most widely used screening tool. Shows the weight range that falls in the "healthy" BMI category for your height.

Robinson Formula (1983)

Updated version of the Devine formula. Uses different coefficients for men and women above 5 feet.

Miller Formula (1983)

Generally produces slightly higher estimates than Robinson. Based on clinical population data.

Devine Formula (1974)

Originally developed for drug dosing calculations. Still widely referenced in clinical settings.
